The Balkans, 2015

December 8th, 2015:  The countdown is on.  Only 12 days until we fly away to the Balkans!  We are landing in Zagreb and heading directly to Split to relax on the Dalmatian Coast.  After a couple of days, we will make our way to Dubrovnik for Christmas.  On Boxing Day, we head farther south to Kotor, Montenegro for a couple of days.  Finally, we head north to the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo.

What made us decide on the Balkans, you ask?  Well, for the past several years, we have talked about cycling through Croatia.  Soldier Boy spent time in Croatia when he was on leave from his two tours in Bonsia and absolutely loved it.  Then, this fall, I read the book The Cellist of Sarajevo by  Steven Galloway.  I had always considered Sarajevo to be somewhat steeped in myth and story, culture and heavy history.  I asked Soldier Boy if he was interested in returning.  He said he always knew he would.

Finally, after three months of waiting, the time to depart is drawing near.
